Automotive Deployment

 

Paloma Consulting worked with a $30billion global market leader in automotive systems which was recently named by Forbes magazine as one of the best managed big companies in the United States and by Fortune magazine as the most admired company in motor vehicle and parts sector.

 

Initially we trained and certified 90 Black Belts from UK, France, Czech Republic and Italy in their local language. We helped the HQ internal deployment team to develop a rigorous Six Sigma training strategy which aligned with business objectives. 

 

We participated in the selection process and trained the first wave of Master Black Belts.  Thereafter a robust process was put in place for mentoring practitioners and projects whilst we mentored the Master Black Belts and certified every practitioner in 75 plants.

 

RESULT: 265 training projects were completed, delivering a 114 fold return on investment on subjects including:

Paloma Consulting worked with a large public financial services company which specialised in life and pensions. We advised the internal deployment team in developing a Lean Six Sigma training strategy which aligned with the group's business objectives. 

 

6 waves of 4 week Lean Six Sigma training were conducted for practitioners. We developed a project tracking system, benefits capture and audit mechanisms. We also introduced mentoring systems, formal project review processes, and bespoke training material geared to the specifics of the industry.

 

We applied rigorous certification criteria for Green Belts, Black Belts and Master Black Belts. Mentors were identified from the ranks of certified Black Belts that we had trained to receive further support and training.  These mentors then attended our Master Black Belt training and subsequently led further internal training, including 8 waves of Yellow Belt Six Sigma training for project team members.

 

As part of Master Black Belt certification, project managers restructured Customer Services by merging call centre operations with supporting back office operations to meet customer needs. Processes such as premium collections, policy servicing and payments on maturity, death and surrender were now dealt with by a single operator on first contact.

 

RESULT: 140 training projects were completed, delivering a 29 fold return on investment, on subjects including:

Paloma Consulting led a deployment of Advanced Problem Solving for an iconic global motorcycle manufacturer.  We provided initial advice on candidate selection, certification and project review guidelines, project tracking and reporting processes, as well as delivering training and guidance for training participants through to project completion.

 

We conducted 10 waves of Green Belt and 5 waves of Black Belt Six Sigma training and worked with the project Champions. In addition, Lean Six Sigma Foundation training and Train-the-Trainer classes were developed and delivered to front line supervisory staff.

Paloma Consulting conducted a ‘diagnostic’ exercise and supported the deployment of Lean Six Sigma training for a leading home shopping group with 24,000 employees.

 

This group embarked upon a long term business improvement programme, designed to transform the way the company treated its customers, and its approach to tackling process improvement and performance. The group decided to base its approach on the Lean Six Sigma methodology, focusing on the customer to generate cultural change.

 

The approach centred around a customised training course providing skills to Black Belt standard, with the Six Sigma training spread over 4 months and including 1 to 1 mentoring sessions by Paloma. We provided formal certification to rigorous standards for technical competency and delivery of projects during the training.

 

Over 160 practitioners completed the Lean Six Sigma training in 11 waves spread over approx 2 years. Additionally we led 2 day ‘Foundation’ Training, and facilitated Executive sessions which greatly increased the leadership’s understanding of how to leverage the capability for results.

A large utility company engaged Paloma Consulting to provide Six Sigma training to project managers at a regional sludge treatment plant which had been experiencing operational difficulties with down time, high levels of variability in output from its production lines and spiralling costs. 

 

Projects completed in this phase had a significant impact on the operation of the plant, achieving standardisation of operating practice between the lines and delivering significant reductions in process variation, downtime and operating costs. 

 

The impact of the improvements encouraged the management team to extend the application of Six Sigma beyond the manufacturing environment.  Additional projects were identified in  work management processes for water distribution and treatment assets. Significant savings and improvements in customer service were delivered by a number of the projects.
